Southie Seal in the Sun

Everyone wants to live in Southie! Even wildlife. We’ve got coyotes, deer, skunks, bunnies, mola mola sunfish, whales, bald eagles, turkeys, swans and this seal was spotted on Wednesday off of the Sugar Bowl in Southie!
Is it strange to see a harbor seal in the winter?
Not at all! Harbor seals can frequently be seen in the winter and spring basking in the sun! So be on the lookout along the beaches and shorelines.
If you do see one, just leave the seal alone.
The New England Aquarium advises that whether you’re on land or water, try to stay at least 100 feet away from any seals you see. If you need to get past a seal that’s hauled out on a beach or pier, remember to treat the seal with care and respect.
Special thank you to Jenn Menjin for sharing the photo!
