Everyone wants to live in Southie! Even wildlife. We’ve got coyotes, deer, skunks, mola mola sunfish, whales, bald eagles, turkeys and now we have the cutest bunnies! Bunny sightings in Southie are becoming more and more frequent. Some spotted in the Seaport District, some at M Street park. They are loving this neighborhood!
Back in the day, you never saw bunnies in Southie and now bunnies everywhere! Why? Well, for one, it’s rabbit mating season – March through September – so that could be one reason we are seeing more. But why are they hopping all over the city? Well, just like squirrels, rabbits are getting used to living in the city. (We hear they love the nightlife and the close proximity to the beach.) According to an article in the Boston Globe last month, the New England cottontail and Eastern cottontail — can live in a habitat as small as a half acre. Just a little green space and some vegetation.
