Southie Small Businesses Looking for Help

Now more than ever, small businesses are hanging on by a thread.  With announcements of more restaurants shutting their doors and small businesses with strict COVID-19 restrictions in place trying to keep their heads above water, and the federal government failing to get their act together, it’s clear help is needed.

A few weeks ago, Barstool Sports stepped up to the plate, raising nearly $20 million dollars to help fund 85 small businesses and counting through the Barstool Fund. Locally, Southie’s own Stats pitched in adding $5000 to the fund and organizing an additional fundraising effort through gift cards sales with $6000 more.  You can make a donation directly to the Barstool Fund here.

Two local small businesses are hoping to get on Barstool’s radar and be granted some much needed relief from the Barstool Fund. With the City of Boston stuck in Phase 2, Stage 2 of reopening, gyms and fitness centers have been particularly hit hardRegan’s Motivated Fitness’s Thomas Reagan and his father Tom created a passionate video on Wednesday which you can see here via Instagram. Andrea Corazzini – owner of East Side Yoga and Fitness – followed the Regan’s lead with the creation of her own video. Share their videos! Another way to show support would be to purchase gift cards and personal training sessions to our local fitness studios and gyms.

The Winter Fund

Another initiative to help fund the full-time restaurant works of the neighborhood called the Winter Fund has been created by Mike Shaw owner of Loco and Fat Baby.  The Winter Fund’s goal is to simply match what full-time employees of Fat Baby and Loco made, dollar-for-dollar, in February and March of 2019.  Anything extra will be given to other South Boston restaurant employees. You can make a donation here!

You can also give some love to our local restaurants by purchasing gift cards and ordering takeout/delivery.

Let’s get through this together!
