Eat:
Get Fired Up for the 20th Annual Chef in Shorts! Boston’s most talented chefs will be firing up the grill at the annual Chefs in Shorts event.  On Friday, June 23rd, the Seaport Hotel will be the city’s hottest spot.  Local chefs will grill up their favorite dishes during this summer-in-the-city barbecue. Tickets are $90 per person and include complimentary beer, wine and tastings.  This event will take place rain or shine.  For more information and tickets visit here! 

Drink:
After a LONG winter and (what feels like an) even longer spring, we could all use an escape to paradise. But if Maui isn’t exactly in your future, we’ve rounded up Boston’s best tiki drinks and hula-loving hot spots just for you. Leis, grass skirts, and those fun little drink umbrellas are totally optional. But highly encouraged.  Here’s our guide of where to get tiki drinks in Southie!

See:
Grab a blanket and head to A Street Park in Fort Point.  Enjoy a free outdoor screening of the classic All the President’s Men starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford.  The fun begins at 8pm.

Listen:
Mix and mingle with friends and neighbors as local legend Danny Lynch launches his new CD – Full Circle.  The fun takes place at Florian Hall on Friday, June 23rd from 7:30pm-12:30am.  Tickets are $20 and the CD will be for sale!

Try:
The long awaited B Tone Fitness has opened its doors in Southie!  Adding another choice in fitness studios, B Tone combines strength, endurance, balance, flexibility and cardio on the Megaformer – like a reformer.  Classes combine Pilates and circuit training.  Sounds like fun!

Participate:
Experience a variety of cultures on Saturday from 2pm-10pm at the Lawn on D!  This family friendly event will celebrate the many cultures that call Boston home! Local cultural groups will bring their traditions to The Lawn On D in celebration of the rich heritage we are surrounded with.  From Irish dance to origami, visit here for a full schedule.

Play:
Family Fun Pick! Come on our for a day of good old fashioned family fun on Farragut Road on Saturday, June 24th at the Donny Higgins Memorial Street Hockey and Family Fun Day!  The day kicks off with a day-long street hockey tournament at the outdoor rink. Whether you play or watch and cheer, this will be an exciting day of sportsmanship.  There will be also be kids activities, a DJ, and refreshments beginning at 12pm.  . Enjoy:
Cool off!  Capo now has a gelato and sorbet stand!  Stop by for a cone or a cup!

Roll:
To the younger generation – roller disco was a thing and the Queen of Disco was none other than Dorchester’s own Donna Summer.  To pay tribute to her, the City of Boston is honoring her with the third annual  “A Celebration of Summer: The Donna Summer Memorial Roller Disco Party. ” This good time takes place on Friday, June 23rd from 6pm-10pm at City Hall Plaza.  Kon and the Gang will be playing plenty of funk and disco hits to get you moving and there will be special appearances by Drag Diva Frieda Fries and Nicholle Pride.   You can dust off of your old roller skates or rent a pair on site.  If you have a tube top or a sweet satin jacket, wear it!

Shop:
It’s officially summer!  Celebrate with a closet refresh and shop local!  Here’s a quick guide of where to shop in Southie!

Workout:
Get your booty in gear!  Kelly Brabants from Booty by Brabants is hosting the 3rd annual Bootys for the Battle on Saturday, June 24th at 12pm at the Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center to benefit METAvivor!  Enjoy an hour-long class set to music by JAM’N 94.5FM’s turntable master,  DJ Pup Dawg.  Tickets are $30-$40 and can be purchased at eventbrite!

    I’d love to move to any of the hundreds of condo’s that are being allowed to go up, but I can’t afford that kind of money. It’s disgraceful that folks that were born and raised in “SOUTHIE” are being forced out of the neighborhood because the rents are so high. Change is good but enough is enough

    Agree with “Soon to be displaced”, but I hope he/she is attending neighborhood and.cicty council meetings and pushing for more/more/more housing.

    Owners will never let prices decline, because the economy will be in a nose dive if that happens. But, we can stop them from going up so fast if demand can be met. Save a row house by building that highrise near the old power plant for example.

    If we truly want to slow the craziness of rents / housing, Boston is going to have to do a much better job zoning housing for the 130,000 new residents it is expecting by 2030 per the last census. We don’t want to be the next San Fransisco.
