Originally known as Armistice Day to honor the living veterans of World War I, Veterans Day has transformed into a holiday that celebrates all  who have served and are serving their country. Here are some things happening in the neighborhood to celebrate.

Fitzgerald VFW Post Toiletry Drive

The Fitzgerald post has organized a toiletry drive for Veterans Day.  Drop by toiletry, hats, socks and Christmas gift cards for the Veterans at the Soldiers Home in Chelsea.  You can drop off items at the post on Veterans Day or at the campaign office of Michael Flaherty at 668 East Broadway Monday – Wednesday 10am-5pm

Take the American Flag Challenge

One Southie resident wants you to show your American pride and support of our veterans! Peggy Woods would like you to display an American flag on your home or business before Veterans Day – Thursday, November 11th. So let’s do it! Display your stars + stripes!

Veterans Bowl for Free

To honor our troops’ service and sacrifice, Kings Dining & Entertainment’s 11 locations nationwide will be offering free bowling to our troops as a special thank you to all military personnel this Veteran’s Day. All veterans, active, and reserve military members will receive one free game and shoe rental.

Zoo is Free for Veterans

In honor of Veterans Day, admission to Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo will be free on Thursday, November 11, 2021. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend a memorable day with family and friends while learning about fascinating wildlife from all over the world and exploring all that the Zoos have to offer. Pre-registration is required.

Free Lunch for Veterans at Tuscan Kitchen

In honor of Veterans Day, veterans and their guest are invited for lunch on Thursday, November 11th 11am-4pm. You can make your reservation here! 

Veterans Day Memorial Service

Join the Fitzgerald Post for the 70th annual Veterans Day Memorial Service.

9am – assemble at the post

9:40 – parade to St. Brigid

10am – memorial mass
