Lend a helping hand! This is the time of year to be grateful for all we have. Unfortunately, there are many families that need help with the holidays including Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving at St. Monica/St. Augustine – The long standing South Boston tradition of the Thanksgiving Dinner at St. Monica Church is being served from 11:30-1:30. For more than 30 years, Frank Kelley and his family led a brigade of volunteers who made sure thousands of people a hot turkey dinner on Thanksgiving now the South Boston community has continued this tradition in Frank’s name. It takes a village to make this dinner a reality!  Volunteer to help cook turkeys, bake a pie, make pick ups, deliveries, serve meals, set-up and clean-up!  You can email Dan Manning at [email protected]

Still need a turkey?  Foodie’s got plenty of fresh and dozen turkeys on hand as well as fresh produce for your sides.  Don’t have time to make sides – Foodie’s also has delicious side dishes at the ready in their prepared foods case.  Insider’s tip: Not sure how the heck to cook a turkey?  Head to Butterball’s website for a how to guide.  They even have an app!  Also, Monday is the last day to order homemade pies from Capo!  Need a dinner reservation?  Here’s who serving up Thanksgiving dinner! 

Dance, dance, dance!  Revisit the good old days and enjoy Southie DJ legend Dru Errico as he spins the tunes at Seapoint  on Wednesday night beginning at 8pm.   Plan on dancing the night away to such local favorites like Happy Radio and Young Hearts Run Free! No cover charge.  Plenty of parking!  It will be worth having a hangover on Thanksgiving!  Capo will feature live music in the Supper Club on Wednesday evening with Live Music by Vincent King & DJ Silent Partner! Doors open at 7pm. Live Music at 9pm.

Sign up to run for Mayor of Southie! How does marching/riding in the 2019 St. Patrick’s Day parade in a prominent spot, sporting a “Mayor of Southie” sash with five of your friends sound? Well, it could be you this year! The organizers of the parade – The Allied War Veterans Council – have announced that the Mayor of Southie contest is back! This fundraising effort allows members of the South Boston community to participate in a spirited competition to help raise funds to support the parade!  Get more details here!

Shop small! If you survive Black Friday and still have some shopping left in you, then head out to the streets of Southie on Saturday.   Saturday, November 24th is national “Small Business Saturday.” This campaign was designed by American Express to generate business to small independent merchants – and we know how important it is to shop locally! So get out and there and shop!  And spread the word too!  Encourage your friends and family to shop locally! Not only are you getting a jump on your Christmas shopping, you are helping our local economy!  Really, it’s a win/win situation.   The City of Boston is also offering free metered spots on Small Business Saturday too! Also – Mark Your Calendars – It’s the Annual South Boston Christmas Stroll and Tree Lighting – another opportunity to support local small business!
