Looks like parking in your neighborhood will be getting a little bit harder – or maybe it will be easier – depending on how you look at it. A new parking pilot program to set aside and lease public parking spots to ride sharing company Zip car will be expanding to include more spaces beginning May 1st.
Back in October of 2015, the city launched a program called Drive Boston – 3 spots in the municipal lot on West Broadway are dedicated to this program. The goal is not only to generate revenue for the city, but to encourage people to get rid of their cars and create more parking spots. Less cars equals more spots, right? Southie residents haven’t seen any evidence of this nonsense but evidently the data collected from Drive Boston is encouraging and more spots on the street will be dedicated to the expansion of this program.
For the neighborhood of South Boston, the lettered streets – north to south/south to north – are the streets that will be included. Each block will have one designated spot for Zip Car. The streets running east to west/west/east will not be affected. Look for signs over the next few weeks. Oh by the way, April Fools.
