Turns Out the Seaport Might Actually Be Getting a Giant Dome/Sphere After All

Truth is stranger than fiction
Remember when Caught in Southie joked about a giant Vegas-style Sphere coming to the Seaport for April Fool’s Day? Well… turns out we weren’t that far off.
According to the Boston Globe, Massport has selected a proposal for a massive “immersive dome experience” on a parking lot at 492 Summer Street.
The seasonal attraction would feature a giant dome designed for immersive art installations, music experiences, projections, and events, along with outdoor space for festivals and community programming.
While it’s not exactly the glowing Sphere we joked about back in April, it definitely feels like the Seaport is leaning further into big entertainment concepts and experiential attractions.
The Globe reports that the project is still in the early planning stages, but Massport sees the dome as a way to activate the waterfront site year-round.
