South Boston Business News – What’s opening, who’s closing + more

In the ever-changing landscape of the Southie business community, here’s the latest news on who’s opening, what’s closing, and more!

In Good Company

In Good Company will be closing its doors in six months.  After four years in business, the gift shop located on East Broadway will close in December.  Owner Kait explained on Instagram what’s in store for her, her family and her business Party Mouth@luxehomeinteriors is moving into this spot this month to share the space with In Good Company and will add some fun new products to the shop.

A refresh for The Broadway

You’ll have to wait a few months for The Broadway’s crowd-pleasing food menu, shareable cocktails, and their legendary brunches!   The wildly popular East Broadway restaurant will take a brief intermission to prepare for an exciting next act. Starting June 30th, The Broadway will close temporarily as it gears up for a brand-new chapter. Dubbed the beginning of a “New Era,” the revamp will blend everything you know and love with a few surprises. Think updated style, exciting new culinary experiences, and the same community-first feel that’s made The Broadway a Southie staple since day one.

Bottega

Bottega is opening any day now at the corner of K and Second in Southie.  This new Italian restaurant is taking over the shuttered Thirst spot.

Cook House

Well, this is exciting news: the team at Broadway Restaurant Group (Lincoln, Capo, Loco, Fat Baby, Hunter’s) is opening a new spot on West Broadway in the old South Boston Chinese and Certified Meatball Company spots. The Zoning Board of Appeals approved plans by BRG to open a 352-seat restaurant called Cook House.  BRG attorney Ryan Spitz told the board that Chef Nick Dixon will be a part of the new venture. The new restaurant will be made up of small spaces offering different dining opportunities, like seating along an open, wood-fired kitchen, another group of seats around a circular fireplace, and more seats in a more cozy area beyond ceiling-height trees.  There will also be a large skylight to the ceiling to lighten things up! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be offered at Cook House in addition to a bakery cafe!

Sally’s Apizza is coming to town!

Considered one of the best pizza spots in the country by some, a Connecticut restaurant is coming to the neighborhood! Sally’s Apizza will open in Fort Point on Thompson Place soon. Sally’s Apizza was founded in New Haven, CT, by Salvatore “Sally” Consiglio in 1938. According to its website, they hand-craft authentic New Haven pizza in custom-designed ovens using the original recipes. The pizza is known for its distinctive tomato sauce and chewy, crispy crust with an iconic oven-kissed char. The pizza is so good that people have it shipped nationwide! Wowza!

Reunion Cafe

The long-vacant spot at A and West Broadway, which once was the home of Mul’s Diner, has a new tenant!  According to a post on Instagram via the West Broadway Neighborhood Association (WBNA), Reunion will open in early 2025.  Reunion will feature coffee, breakfast, and lunch items made with fresh local ingredients.

Ocho Cafe

It looks the former Purple Shell space on West Broadway next to Broadway Station will be transformed into something new – Ocho Cafe!

Telegraph Hill

Telegraph Hill, a neighborhood favorite located on Dorchester Street, officially closed its doors last month.  We did hear from a reliable source that the owners of Shamrock Pub bought the building and the liquor license.  The license will be transferred to the Shamrock’s newest venture – Scobie’s Cafe + Bar in Adams Village in Dorchester. As for the building, a new concept will be opening in this location later this year – with a goal of late summer/early fall.

Come winter, the pickleball courts will convert to an ice rink.  Heaters and hot toddies will be on deck to help keep you warm!  Get all the details here.

PickleBOS

And yet another pickleball spot will be opening in the neighborhood! PickleBOS has signed a lease for 26,000 square feet at 4 Alger St. It will be part of the “On the Dot” large scale development between Andrew Square and Broadway T stations.  PickleBOS will feature 11 indoor courts, making it one of the region’s largest pickleball venues.  In addition, there will be a pro shop, a lounge and event space.
