Universal Hub is reporting that residents of the former Bigelow School property at West Fourth Street and E Street are looking to add new housing to the neighborhood by building on top of their existing parking lot.
Plans recently filed with the Boston Planning Department show a proposed five-story residential building that would bring 45 new condominium units to the site, constructed above a two-level garage. The project would replace the surface parking lot, with most of the new garage spaces intended to make up for those lost during construction.
According to the West 4th Street Condominium Association’s filing, the new building would include a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. Eight of the condos would be designated as affordable housing.
Parking is also a key part of the proposal. The plans call for a total of 75 garage spaces, with 47 reserved for the existing residents of 350 West 4th Street and the remaining 28 allocated to owners of the new units. You can check out the plans and meeting/comment schedule here.
The Bigelow School was originally built in 1899, converted into apartments in the 1980s, and into condos in 1995.
