Hunt & Gather! This coming Monday is National Consignment Day! Southie has some of the best consignment and vintage shops around including Boston Magazine Best of Winners Recollective, Dew Luxe, Covet and Go Garbaj! Pop Up:
Come enjoy the revolutionary shopping experience that is AF! The pop up to end all pop ups is returning to Boston on September 29th and 30th at the Innovation and Design Building. The pop up market will feature over 50 brands from local and national craftsmen. AF is on a mission to transform the retail experience, making the pop up a cultural mecca of music, art, food and fashion. Guests can shop a myriad of Made in USA brands from Boston’s own Ball and Buck to Zass Design Jewelry and Throne Watches, all while shopping to the beats of a local DJ. This event is free! Discover Moakley! Mayor Martin J. Walsh invites residents and visitors of all ages to “Discover Moakley” with a family festival on Saturday, September 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. followed by an outdoor movie at 7 p.m. along with more activities highlighting this popular park located along the waterfront in South Boston. “Discover Moakley” will be a full day of fun with food, beach games, skateboarding, a screening of “The Goonies,” and more. This event is free to the public and family friendly. Explore new recreational activities, learn about resilient landscapes, and discover the potential for Moakley Park. Learn about what is being done to make Moakley Park accessible to all of Boston, while enjoying the festivities at the same time. The event is hosted by the Boston’s Parks and Recreation and Greenovate Boston, Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, Boston Harbor Now, The Trust for Public Land, and the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Walk:
Lace up your sneakers and walk around Castle Island to raise money for the Michael Burke Foundation – an organization which helps families in and around the Boston area battling cancer. Post walk enjoy a pig roast, burgers, hot dogs and more while you watch the Pats take on the Dolphins at 1pm. The walk starts at 10:30am at the Boston Harbor Yacht Club (1805 Columbia Road) and post walk celebration is back at the BHYC. Tickets are $30. You can purchase them here! Cant’ make the event? Hang out with Third Piece every Friday night and knit in the shop! Social Knit Nights are a fun, social time for knitters of all levels to hang out with other knitters in the area. We can coordinate some drinks and snacks from time to time, and have a great time knitting and chatting!
Shred:
Shred it! Forget it! Mass Bay Credit Union is hosting their wildly popular shredding event! Members and residents who live in the community are invited to bring any documents that contain sensitive information and have them shredded safely and for free! There is a five-box maximum. This event will take place on Saturday, September 29th from 9am-11:30am at their Southie branch!
