Hit the books!  South Boston Public Library is hosting a children’s reading contest! Race into reading is a Hot Wheels-themed summer reading program. Beginning June 20, stop by the front desk at the library to register your child. A race car with your child’s name in the front window and you’ll take home a sticker chart to track your child’s reading. Every day that your child meets the goal, place a sticker on the chart. Bring your child and the sticker chart to the front desk each week through September 2 to collect a Hot Wheels prize and advance his or her race car across the window! Children who collect their prizes every week will receive a Hot Wheels carry case for all their cars!  Talk about motivation!

DIY with Southie’s favorite handbag designer! Lindsay Tia is hosting a Paint Your Own Tote night on Monday, June 20th from 6pm-8pm at Lincoln Tavern! Each person will receive a burlap tote bag made by Lindsay Tia to paint and decorate as well as an apron to wear while painting. Materials to decorate your bag include: paints, studs, ribbons, stencils, and MORE! The perfect girls night with discounted wine prices including red, white, and rose for just $5 a glass! Everything’s coming up Rose!  It’s that time of year, the annual Grand Rose Tasting at Social Wines!  Stop and smell and taste the rose. On Monday, June 20th from 5:30pm-7:30pm and sample more than 30 wines!  Summer is the perfect season for the refreshing pink wine!  It’s the perfect wine for day-drinking too! Family Fun Pick! Come on our for a day of good old fashioned family fun on Farragut Road on Saturday, June 25th at the Donny Higgins Memorial Street Hockey and Family Fun Day!  The day kicks off with a day-long street hockey tournament at the outdoor rink. Whether you play or watch and cheer, this will be an exciting day of sportsmanship.  There will be also be kids activities, a DJ, and refreshments beginning at 12pm.  . Work out at the the Lawn on D!  Equinox is stepping out of the clubs and onto The Lawn on D for a new summer workout series.  One Sunday a month from June through September 2016, Equinox’s expert group fitness instructors will lead a group of members and non-members alike through an hour-long signature group fitness class on The Lawn on D.  Each workout will be held from 10:30AM-11:30AM. Following the class participants can enjoy some well-deserved down-time and Lawn on D’s amenities including concessions and complimentary games. This year’s class schedule includes:

This summer series is open to both Equinox members and non-members and is complimentary for members. Non-members are asked to make a $15 donation to Cycle for Survival, a nationwide movement to beat rare cancers. 100 percent of the funds donated go to research studies and clinical trials to change the way cancer is diagnosed and treated.
