A monument restoration team have come together to try and restore the damage to the WWII Memorial.  On Monday, we reported that the monument was vandalized with oil.  According to State Rep. David Biele, the DCR has placed a fence around the moment while it’s being cleaned. “They are using a product called poultice.  They’ve tested it on part of the damage and it seems to be working.”

With poultice, the product is applied in a thick coat and needs to sit for 24 hours.  It also works best in heat.  “The monument will be wrapped up and they are currently using heat blowers to activate the product,” added Biele.

So fingers crossed, Southie! Massachusetts State Police are currently investigating this incident.  Anyone with information should reach out to the state police at (617) 740-7710.

Boston police are also investigating vandalism at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mattapan. On Tuesday, it was discovered that several memorials had oil poured on them including one for fallen Boston Police officers, Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI & WWII monument altar, Knights of Columbus and Free Masons. Anyone with information is strongly urged to contact District B-3 Detectives at (617) 343-4712.
