Person struck by vehicle on Melcher Street

Updated
BPD, BFD and Boston EMS responded to call for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at 30 Melcher Street on Friday shortly before 3pm. The victim was conscious and taken to an area hospital.
According to the Fort Pointer on twitter, the person struck was riding a Bluebike:
This intersection is a very dangerous one in the neighborhood. Back in 2019, a young woman was struck and killed by a van in this neighborhood at the intersection of Summer and Melcher.
This section of the neighborhood isn’t the only problem area for traffic/pedestrian safety issues in the neighborhood. L + 6th, Farragut Road, N + Broadway and Day Blvd. have all had serious incidents involving speeding cars and or distracted drivers – and sadly incidents resulting in death.
City Councilor Ed Flynn has recommended multiple 12 point plans to the city over the last several years regarding traffic calming infrastructure, including, speed humps, raised crosswalks, rapid flash beacons with pedestrian island, road diets and cur extensions.
Last week, the South Boston MOMS Group requested to have East Broadway between I and L streets closed during the annual Trick or Treating on Broadway. The primary reason for this request is pedestrian safety. You can read about this here.Â
