Updated:

If you noticed a large police presence along Day Blvd on Monday night, here’s the reason why.

According to the Boston Globe, five teenagers were arrested after a large disturbance involving nearly 70 teens at Carson Beach on Monday night around 8:30pm.

State Police responded to a call for a group of teens (about 70) “causing a disturbance” near the beach’s bath house. According to the state police, the teenagers were harassing lifeguards, smoking marijuana, popping wheelies on bikes close to beachgoers, and general running amok.  Members of the group also began harassing a State Police Lieutenant by yelling expletives, threats, insults and slurs at him.

Five teenagers ended up being arrested while the rest of the group was told to disperse.  Extra patrols were set up on the beach as a precaution.

Recently, the Carson Beach area has been a hotbed of police activity this spring and summer. Earlier in June, State Police were called to Carson Beach for another incident involving a fight. There was also a gun related incident back in April on Carson Beach. Later that same day across the way at Moakley Park, over twenty shots were fired leaving one person shot.

Good grief, stay safe out there! We think it’s gonna be a long summer!
