L + 4th Market has had it up to here with beach chairs…and dogs.

It’s just common sense, but not everyone has it.

The convenience of having straps on a beach chair that you can wear over your shoulders like a backpack helps you free up your hands to carry other things like coolers or a tote filled with supplies for a day at the beach. But when entering a store, especially a store that is tight with inventory, it would make sense to leave it outside, right? Well, evidently not.

L and 4th Market—the little store at the gas station at the intersection that has a Dunkin and sells wine and other grocery items—had to post the following sign. Customers are wearing bulky and awkward chairs into the teeny tiny store and knocking inventory off of the shelves, including bottles of wine.

And just recently, a “No Dogs” sign has appeared on the door.  This one just a simple one created with a plain piece of paper and markers.

Just a reminder: Unless your dog is a service dog, leave your dog at home.  “The City of Boston enforces the State Sanitary Code 105 CMR 590.00 and the 2013 Federal Food Code. Only service dogs that are trained to assist people with disabilities are permitted in/on licensed establishments which include outdoor patios. Please note emotional support animals and pets do not qualify as service dogs. Please note this is not a new policy.”

Here are some more tips for being a better dog owner here.

So just a friendly reminder to be courteous and use common sense.  That is all.

Easy solution! Put the signs up but add that if people choose not to comply with the policy they will be responsible for payment of anything they have damaged because of their chairs. Just 1 person charged and the word will spread! Hope the store has camera!

Kudos to them for standing their ground.
Southie stores have had non service dogs in food stores for too many years.

How about dogs inside the Whole Foods on Harrison? Not service dogs, just pets on the leash and barking in the self-checkout area. Disgusting.
