Dirt Bike Chaos: Winthrop Man Crashes Into State Police Cruiser During I-93 Takeover

This wasn’t Fast & Furious: Southie Drift, but it sure looked like it. According to the Boston Globe, over the weekend, a swarm of about 100 dirt bikes, scooters, and bicycles took over I-93, zipping through traffic and tearing through the O’Neill Tunnel like it was their own racetrack. Things went off the rails when 22-year-old Adam Harrison of Winthrop allegedly smashed his dirt bike into a State Police cruiser. He took off running, but cops say they later tracked him down—and, to top it off, the dirt bike he ditched was reported stolen.
The chaos didn’t stop there. State Police spotted the group again near D Street and Summer Street, and even had to call in the Air Wing to keep tabs from above. Harrison is now facing charges like disturbing the peace and resisting arrest, and he’ll be arraigned in South Boston Municipal Court on Monday.
Police say if you come across one of these swarms on the road, the best bet is to steer clear—it’s not exactly your everyday traffic jam.
