Death investigation of priest who died “tragically” in Spain, taught at BC High and served in Seaport

According to a press release from the Jesuits USA East, a Catholic priest from Massachusetts died “tragically” on January 20th in Spain.
Father Richard K. Gross, 80, a Wrentham native with connections to Boston, died in the city of Málaga while “preparing to embark on a cruise.”
Gross was ordained in 1976, then spent five years at Boston College High School as a religion teacher and spiritual counselor. He returned to BC High in 2023 to continue his pastoral work and serve the Jesuit community there in addition, Gross was a regular celebrant at our Lady of Good Voyage in the Seaport.
According to WCVB, Gross was allegedly murdered during a robbery at his rented apartment, which cited a Spanish newspaper’s sources.

Oh, my! That is really scary! Sorry that he was murdered in cold blood like that. Without having known him or his family personally, my condolences go to the community, and the ones close to him. It’s unfortunate that there wasn’t adequate security and protection for him, and that horrible crime was not prevented.
