Universal Hub reported via Boston Globe reporter Janelle Nanos about a vibrant new neighborhood in Boston called “Seaport South.” Good lord!
Evidently, Beacon Capital Partners, the developer behind Southline (the old Globe headquarters) on Morrissey Blvd., thinks the neighborhood of Dorchester needs a fancier name – “Seaport South” to lure tenants. ” This neighborhood is “quickly emerging as the place to be in Boston.”
Let us not forget other trendy (and insulting) neighborhood names created by developers and real estate groups when they want to remove a neighborhood that they think is undesirable. Broadway Village – Midtown, and the Innovation District, to name a few.

Yes, a “vibrant new neighborhood”— with no parking, where people will only take up residence for one to three years and not raise any families in. The only vibrance will be felt by the realtors, getting a sales commission or first, last, and security deposit on the same apartment every other year. What a great place.
Some are calling East Boston: Boston East.
My neighborhood of “Northeast City Point” is something of a vibrant place in and of itself.
South Boston is, and has always been the greatest neighborhood to grow up in,.. there’s something about the perfect blend of location and layout of the streets, the beach on any afternoon, the places for any activity, basketball, football or halfball for those who remember.
Enough gyms to get fit, Lst. The muni, Connolly’s,, enough room to take a jog around the Island.
Restaurants of my day were Amrhiens, The Farragut house, even Kelly’s cork and bull was very good for a steak..and a fight later on in the evening…but no., Seriously the name of Southie fits just fine, to prove it …there is a bridge not far from Pittsburgh that is named The South Boston Bridge. Not kidding.
The folks call it the “Southie Bridge”
The bridge connects Versailles Pa. To Elizabeth Pa.
So put your pride out there Southie and stand tall, we won’t change a thing,
My Southie dot tattoo is fading, but it’ll be there ,count on it.
South Boston Virginia is another example of a great name catching on,
