What’s happening in Southie this weekend

Eat:
Mangia!  Mario Batali’s Babbo Pizzeria has officially opened at Eleven Fan Pier on the South Boston Waterfront.  This 8,700 square foot restaurant is serving up wood-fire pizza, pasta, and antipasti.  It also includes a patio and private function rooms.  Batali is a cookbook author, and co-host of ABC’s The Chew.  He also owns over 20 restaurants including the flagship Babbo Ristorante e Enoteca in New York and Otto Enoteca Pizzerias in New York.  Batali joins the bandwagon of celebrity chefs with restaurants in South Boston including Southie’s own Barbara Lynch and Ming Tsai of Blue Dragon.

Drink:
Raise your mint julep!  Lincoln Tavern and Restaurant – 425 West Broadway –  is hosting a Bulleit Derby Day Brunch on Saturday, May 2nd from 10am-3pm.  Prizes will be awarded to best dressed!  The Bulleit Woody Tailgate Trailer will be serving from 10am-1pm.  Lincoln will also feature a mint julep bar from 12pm-7pm.  The Derby will be shown on three projector screens with the sound on!  

Watch:
Fight Night!  The epic sports day continues well into the night when Stephi’s in Southie will likely be the only South Boston location broadcasting the “fight of the century.”  Watch the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight on all of their TVs including a large screen projection TV being brought in exclusively for this event.  Admission to watch the fight:  $25 tickets being sold in advance.  Call (617) 345-5495 to purchase fight tickets.  Space is limited, so place your order for tickets today.

Cheer:
It’s the most exciting two minutes in sports!  Barlow’s (241 A Street) is hosting a fun-filled Kentucky Derby event to benefit the South Boston Collaborative on Saturday, May 2nd from 4pm-7pm.  Wear your best Derby inspired outfit and hat of course, and you just might win a prize!  There will be food, fun, and raffles.  Tickets are $20.

See:
The FourthFest to benefit the Fourth Presbyterian Church! at Laugh Boston from 2:30-5:30pm on Sunday, May 3rd.  There will be food, drink and entertainment for all including live performances!  Tickets are $50. Volunteer:
The CIA wants you! The Castle Island Association is looking for some new recruits!  This Saturday, May 2nd at 12:30pm, the Castle Island Association is hosting a new volunteer information session inside Fort Independence.  You can also join and become a CIA member for $10. Any type of volunteer help is needed and greatly appreciated! Come learn what it is all about and how to keep history alive in your own backyard!

Let the Open Markets begin! The Greenway Open Market (Rose Kennedy Greenway) officialy begins their second season on Saturday, May 2nd.  This open market is a vibrant arts market that features talented area artists, crafters and independent designers. It is held on Saturdays from May to October along the Wharf District Parks on the Rose Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston. Here’s what you’ll find: handmade and locally produced products including fine art, jewelry, ceramics, crafts, apparel, accessories, and fair trade/eco friendly handmade imports and some tasty mobile eats!  
The South End Open Market at SoWa will kick off another new season on Sunday, May 3rd.   Get some fresh air, mix and mingle among rows and rows of artisans and vendors, enjoy lunch at one of the food trucks and shop till you drop.  Here’s what you will find: art, vintage, furniture, indie clothing designers, ceramics, glass, photography, jewelry, handbags, food trucks, bakers, farmers market, and flowers.  South End Open Market at SoWa (460 Harrison Ave.) happens every Sunday through October from 10am-4pm.
