Kick off the holiday season with a host of activities as well promotions from local businesses on Thursday, November 30th. Sip, shop and dine local all in one night! Enjoy a special tree lighting on East Broadway in front of the library, a visit from Santa and some old fashioned carolers! In addition, enjoy puppet shows at Bringing Up Baby, gingerbread cookie decorating at Cranberry Cafe, complimentary pedicabs to get you to your shopping destinations.  For a full list of participants visit here!

There’s not one but two tree lightings this weekend in Southie! First it’s Light Up the Seaport! The Seaport District is celebrating the most magical season of the year at their Second Annual Tree Lighting event. Enjoy live holiday tunes performed by Rich DiMare, holiday treats from Seaport restaurants, and giveaways! In the spirit of the holiday season, the event benefits Massachusetts Fallen Heroes and The Gavin Foundation.  This fun event takes place on December 1st from 6pm-8pm. On Sunday, December 3rd at 1pm, head to M Street Park for a good old fashioned tree lighting complete with Santa, carols, hot chocolate and more!  For the 22nd year, the Mayor’s Enchanted Trolley Tour will continue the festive tradition of lighting holiday trees while bringing holiday spirit to children across Boston. The event is sponsored by Bank of America!  We hear there will be ponies, a juggler and balloon animals!  Yes!!

Do:
This December marks the 27th annual Laboure Christmas House Tour of South Boston. Hosted by Catholic Charities, this important fundraiser features homes in South Boston decorated for Christmas by local designers.  Five homes are selected and decorated by a team of Boston professional design firms and opened to the public by the generous homeowners to raise money for the social services provided by Catholic Charities Laboure Center.  Purchase a ticket today!  There are two tours  – Saturday, December 2nd at 4pm and Sunday, December 3rd at 12pm

Ride and Brunch:
On Saturday Dec. 2, get your workout fix AND your brunch fix with The Handle Bar and The Punk & Poet. 9:15 class with Natasha followed by the best meal of the day to kick off an epic Saturday!  To register visit here!  Tickets are $35

Run:
Jingle all the way! Put on your Santa hat, lace up those sneakers and get ready to run for a great local school – South Boston Catholic Academy. On Saturday, December 2nd at 10am join your friends and neighbors and run a 5K race along the South Boston beaches. Start and finish is at South Boston Catholic Academy at 866 East Broadway. Stick around for a post-race party with prizes, raffles, food and fun! There is also fun for the kids on deck too with two youth races. At 9:15 – 100 Meter Dash for kids (9 and under) and at 9:30 a 1/2 mile run (14 and under). Sign up on race day in person!  $30 for adults and $15 for kids.

Holiday Cheer:
Reserve your spot! On December 7th, Maureen and Heather bring you a live version of their hilarious podcast Caught Up at Laugh Boston. They’ll bring you up to speed on the latest Southie news, deep dive into Christmas traditions they love and hate, welcome special guests and maybe even some holiday surprises. Join them for audience questions, reminiscing about the Southie of yesteryear, and more! Haul out the holly: It’s going to be an evening filled with mildly entertaining shenanigans! Deck the halls! Stop by and pick out a beauty at Brooksie’s Christmas tree pop up shop at 680 Dorchester Ave. near Andrew Square.  Whether you need an 8ft or a 4ft, they’ve got a wide variety.  Need a wreath for your front door?  They’ve got those too. Open daily from 10am-9pm and offering free local delivery. Perfect for you late-night tree shoppers.  How about some ornaments and decorations?  The Laboure (275 West Broadway) is hosting a special Christmas Shoppe this weekend.  This boutique will feature amazing holiday decorating ideas as well as holiday gift items and it’s guilt-free shopping.  Not only will you be getting yourself ready for the holidays, you’ll also be supporting an important South Boston organization!  So it’s good karma! Stop by Saturday, December 2nd from 10 am – 8 pm and Sunday, December 3 from 10 am – 4pm
