Weekend Picks – August 4th

Eat:
It’s happening!  The much awaited Certified Meatball Company will open its doors on Friday, August 4th for dinner! The brainchild of Boston Nightlife Ventures (think: Southern Kin and Wink & Nod) has been showing off its storefront for several months now, keeping Southie’s resident foodies impatiently awaiting its arrival. Obviously, we’ll be seeing meatballs on the menu, but earlier reports have us looking forward to “global inspired” upgrades like turkey, beef, Korean pork, and veggie balls galore. Certified Meatball Company will call 429 West Broadway home.

Drink:
Have you checked out Mayhew Wine Shop yet?  Located in Fort Point, Mayhew Wine  offers the best wine, beer, cheese, and specialty gourmet items that you can find and it’s presented without pretense – just friendly, knowledgable people ready to help you select the perfect bottle!  It’s worth the trip!  They also have weekly tastings too!

Shop:
Stock up on denim at Ku De Ta this weekend!  Whether it’s skinnies, flares, high waisted or boyfriend, Ku De Ta’s is having a major sale from August 1st-7th.  Enjoy 50% off all denim.

See:
Grab a chair or a blanket and head to A Street Park.  Enjoy a free outdoor screening of the 1986 film Jean De Florette.  We say pack a picnic and having a few nips on hand never hurt anybody.  The film starts are 8:30pm.

Do:
Look for Artists for Humanity at Faneuil Hall Marketplace!  Learn to take your Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook photography to the next level with a three lunchtime workshops (1pm-2pm) taught by staff from Artists for Humanity. Each workshop will combine fun and informal “class” time with guided photo walks. Sessions may focus on people, architecture, food, or other topics, depending on the interests of the group. By the time the workshop is over, you’ll be more than ready to impress your followers with newly acquired composition and editing techniques. Sounds good to us!  For more information visit here! 

Watch:
Go back in time to Civil War era and enjoy a base ball game on Georges Island.  Hop a ferry and head to the game at 11am.  This event is free! Talk about good old fashioned baseball!  Get the scoop here! 

Listen:
Enjoy a free concert at Castle Island on Saturday, August 5th at 2pm featuring  Berklee College of Music’s Nicolas Emden!

Workout/Brunch:
There are not one but two, great Brunch Fit events in Southie this weekend.  Brunches of Boston Brunches of Boston is partnering with BTone Southie and STATS to bring you just that!  Enjoy a 45 minute class at BTone followed by brunch at STATS.  Ticket includes, class, full brunch at STATS and a complimentary Mimosa!  The fun takes place Saturday, August 5th at 11am.  Tickets are $39 and you can purchase them here!   On Sunday, it’s a rooftop dance party followed by brunch at Coppersmith.  Enjoy an hour cardio dance class taught by Fabulously Fit by Catie, then brunch plus a free mimosa for $39!  Tickets can be found here!

Unwind:
Enjoy a noontime yoga class with Jenna Hill at Seaport Square.  It’s a perfect way to spend your lunchtime and kick off the weekend with a little vinyasa flow set to music.  This class is free and you can register here!

Cheers:
Raise a glass for the Playwright!  For 17 years they brought us great food, drinks and don’t forget Country Sunday!  The Playwright will be closing its doors for some renovations on Sunday, August 6th.  Stop for a drink and some appetizers and say your goodbyes….for now!  It will reopen in September will a fresh new look and a fresh new name!  Stay tuned for more details!

Mix&Mingle:
It’s the First Friday at the ICA – White Hot Volume 4.  Enjoy an evening of art, music, c,tails and dancing on Friday, August 4th from 5pm-11pm.  Admission is free for members and $15 for non-members!
