for the weekend of June 1st

Family Fun:
Get ready for some good old fashioned family fun!  The MOM’s Club of South Boston is hosting a Southie Family Fun Day!  Gather up the kids, put on some sunblock and head to Marine Park on Saturday, June 2nd.   Enjoy bouncy houses, music, kids entertainers like Jenny the Juggler, face painting, the farmers market, and lots more!  The fun begins at 11am and goes until 4pm.  For more information visit www.southiefamilyfunday.org.

Eat:
French Toast Anyone? The Paramount (667 East Broadway) is serving up some of the tastiest dishes around.  What really caught our eye was their abundant selections of french toast, but in particular, the fresh banana and caramel french toast.  This delectable breakfast favorite is “to die for,” loaded with fresh bananas, sweet caramel sauce and topped off with powdered sugar. Yum!

Drink:
The Craft Beer Fest is in town this weekend.  The fourth annual Craft Beer Fest kicks off from 6pm to 9:30pm on Friday, June 1rd and will continue on through Saturday, June 2nd from 1pm-4:30pm and 6pm to 9:30 pm at the Seaport World Trade Center (200 Seaport Blvd.) Sample hundreds of handcrafted beers from all over the USA.  There will be guest speakers, beer and food pairings and opportunities to meet the brewers.  You must be 21 plus with a valid I.D.  For more information visit www.harpoonbrewery.com.?Tickets are $45 per person per session

Culture:
Take an art tour!  On Sunday, June 3rd from noon to 6pm dozens of artists and crafts people of South Boston open their studios to the public.  It’s a great way to explore and maybe even add to your art collection!  For a full list of participants go to http://www.southbostonopenstudios.org/.  This event is free and open to the public.  Remember it’s so important to support our local artists!

Hunt:

In the spirit of American Pickers, you never know what treasures you might find at a yard sale.  This Sunday, June 3rd from 9am-4pm a yard sale will take place at 419 West Fourth Street (between F and Dorchester).  Some standouts to look for? A mountain bike and an antique armoire.

Apres Beach:
After a hot day at the beach an ice cold beer will do the trick.  The Seapoint Restaurant (367 East Eighth Street) is offering a Beach Blanket Bingo Special.  Enjoy $5.00 pizzas along with $9.00 imported pitchers/ $7.00 domestic pitchers 4 to 8 pm every Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer.  Stick around for the Celtics Game – they tip off at 8pm Saturday night.

Cheer:

Root, root, root for the home team!  It’s game 3 against Miami on Friday at 8:30pm. The Red Sox are playing the Blue Jay son Friday at 7pm and Sunday at 1pm.  Wondering where to watch the game? https://caughtinsouthie.com/restaurants-bar/7-places-watch-game

Shop:
It’s official – summer is here- the SoWo Open Market new season is in full swing.   Get some fresh air, mix and mingle among rows and rows of artisans and vendors, enjoy lunch at one of the food trucks and shop till you drop.  With an ever-changing group of vendors, you never know what treasure you might discover at SoWa Sundays! SoWa Open Market happens every Sunday through October from 10am-4pm. (460 Harrison Ave.) For more information: http://www.sowaopenmarket.com/

Rumba:
The Intercontinental Hotel launches a new outdoor bar and patio at Rumba.  Enjoy cocktails at this trendy new spot overlooking the water.  Did you RumBa has nothing to do with the famous Latin dance “the Rumba”?  It’s the Intercontinental’s way of poking fun at Bostonian’s pronunciation of “Rum Bar” (the ‘R’ in ‘Bar’ being silent). Rum Bar simply evolved to RumBa.  Hahaha – aren’t they clever?
