Southie’s Own, a popular gift shop located on West Broadway in South Boston, has officially closed its doors. Twelve years ago, Bridget Nee Walsh opened the shop and sold everything from scally caps to Irish knit sweaters and Southie sweatshirts and Beleek Irish Porcelain items.
On January 27th the following message was posted on Facebook:
Owning a small business isn’t easy and we realize that making a decision to close is never easy. We wish you well, Bridget! Until we meet again!

Rents are driving the little stores out of business.
Sorry to see this go. I’ve purchased nice things there. Including a scali cap for my husband that got stolen from the grocery cart one day.
where will I get my shamrocks…. is there a web site I could order from,??? t i a
John Hurley, it says you can get their items on FB and Amazon. Try that. Good Luck.
I wanted to ask if anyone had a 1952 South Boston High School Yearbook that I could make a copy of the sports pages. My brother Thomas Taylor was an athlete during his high school years and I was doing some research on him. Thank you for your consideration, Michael Taylor
I’ll miss my go to store, I could always count on Southie’s own
I purchased a beautiful gold CROSS OF ST BRIGID there. We will miss this shop but our Irish/Southie Spirit
will continue to live on in our Southie relatives for generations to come.
Is there any stores similar in south boston? Any other irish geared gift shops?
No, there isn’t anything like that anymore
Simply the BEST, BETTER than all the rest!!!!!
Hi, I’m very sad that this business closed. I didn’t go there often but it was joyful when I did. I purchased a beautiful Irish sign as a bridal shower gift there. I was looking for an Irish baby gift when I came upon this sad news. Kathleen Plett. (Is your stepmom the former Gail Jacoby? I noticed your last name. If so Gail’s mother and my mother were good friends for many years.)
