An ode to the Southie bush
on N Street
You can take your Southie pear trees, apples trees and City issued maples
There is a special place in our heart for the Southie bush
Sprouting out of the cement in the middle of a city block
you are not a hedge or even a shrub
but you are a singular bush like no other
We are not sure how your got there
on the block of N between East Seventh and East Eighth
Did someone plant you long ago?
No tree or perennials planted in this tiny square
Just a simple, green bush
not fancy
someone placed cobblestones around you
to protect your roots
deeply planted in the dirt
We love you Southie bush for your bizarre mystery
that makes us wonder how you got there every time we pass you.
