Bike Town, a fresh new addition to the neighborhood, launches this week at Moakley Park! This new area in the park is a place where kids can practice riding and rolling in a fun and safe environment, and it’s located across from Carson Beach Bath House!
On Thursday at 3pm, there will be ice cream, music, and more! BYOB – Bring Your Own Bike!
Wondering if middle-aged ladies with roller skates and use Bike Town to practice? Asking for a friend…
Thanks for this fun urban experience: @bostonparksdept @newurbanmechanics @bostonharbornow
Ribbon Cutting on Thursday:
Thursday, the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics (MONUM), Office of Early Childhood, Parks and Recreation Department, and community members will formally open the city’s first Bike Town in Moakley Park. Bike towns are small-sized street networks, often with scaled-down traffic features, designed to teach children how to safely navigate urban street systems and increase their overall confidence in bike riding. This is a part of Mayor Wu’s Connect, Learn, & Explore initiative, a commitment to making Boston the best city in the country to raise a family, by ensuring all of Boston’s children learn how to ride a bike, swim, and connect with their communities through sports, gardening, and the arts.
There will be a brief speaking program followed by a ribbon cutting and bike ride with children from South Boston Neighborhood House.

This bike path is just what we need in the community. Young and older folks can enjoy this environmental asset.
It’s pretty small if they could remove that ridiculous structure that sits in the middle of the pickle ball court and the bike lanes they could take advantage of that space.
Excellent. Maybe Flynn will show up in his SUV to complain that emergency vehicles can’t get by.
(But this is generally great news – just hate that he’s so anti bike)
