South Boston resident and recording artist Ingrid Gerdes has a brand new album out High Priestess and is celebrating with an album release event at Johnny D’s at the end this month.

Gerdes – a native Missourian – studied opera at University of Kansas before earning her degree at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music.  She has lived in South Boston for the past seven years where she has an in-home recording studio.  In addition to singing and performing, Gerdes is an accomplished voice-over artist.  We sat down and had a little Q&A with Ingrid about her new albulm and the big party to celebrate it:

How long have have you been singing? Since I was 3, professionally for 15 years.

Tell us about your album?  “High Priestess,” is my third original studio album. I wanted to create a sound that drew from my experiences growing up in the Ozarks. It’s got a very Soul/Blues/Rock feel with southern influences. I recorded the album in Boston and worked with all local musicians including Garrett Dutton (G Love).   I have also held the number 1 radio play position in MA Blues and Roots radio all fall and  number 32 nationally so it’s been a great success nationally and internationally on Blues radio.

Would we recognize any of your voice over work? I have a studio in my home where I do a lot of voice over work and teach private music lessons. I’ve worked on Johnson and Johnson ads, Children’s apps and Ebooks, Company E learning presentations, radio ads etc! It’s very interesting because it’s a completely different genre of work almost every day. Just the other day a friend from Missouri emailed to tell me he heard my voice on a children’s book he got for his daughter!

Give us the details on your show:  I am so excited to finally celebrate this album. I wasn’t able to have the official release when the CD came out because I was in Taiwan on tour with The VGO, another band I front here in Boston.

The Show is January, 30th at Johnny D’s: 17 Holland St. Somerville. 7:30-9pm (doors at 6pm).  It’s all ages (under 21 must pre purchase a seat) *and we will also have a featured signature “High Priestess,” cocktail to get everyone in the spirit!

Favorite part about living in Southie? I LOVE southie! It reminds me of home- how I know all of my neighbors and can chat with then as I am running around the neighborhood. I know my mail”lady” the owners of my favorite local businesses and all the folks at the post office by name which is fabulous. I feel like we look out for each other in the neighborhood. I love the L Street Gym and the community of people there- I love my Zumba :)  As a runner I am also thankful for the beauty and space we have along the HarborWalk. Thomas Park is my all time favorite place in Boston, those trees and views!!
