You know what they say – The best things in life are free, and that goes for workouts too! Here are some ideas for free fitness in the neighborhood!

Seaport Sweat

Seaport Sweat is one of Boston’s largest free outdoor exercise programs, offering over 100 classes from May to September. Located on Seaport Commons, all levels of fitness are welcome. There are a variety of classes, including pilates, yoga, HIIT, and Zumba. The classes are offered starting at 5:30pm Monday through Thursday and 10 am on Saturdays.  You can learn more here!

MyStryde Running Club

Mystryde offers a free running club. The group meets at their L Street location on Tuesdays at 6:30AM to run the 3.5-mile loop at Castle Island. The group is open to all levels of runners and is a great way to meet new people from the neighborhood. Registration is free, but the studio does ask that you sign up here so they know how many people to expect.

Pickleball Courts

Pickleball is sweeping the nation, and there are a few spots to play for free in Southie. Lawn on D opens Monday, May 1st, and will offer free pickleball, bocce, cornhole, and other lawn games.  In addition to a street hockey rink, a pickleball court is located on Farragut Road next to Evans Field.

Loco 1.5 Star Run Club

Calling all runners— all paces welcome! Join the 1.5 Star Run Club!  The group meets at Loco every Saturday at 9am and there are various routes to choose from: 1.5mi, 5k, 10k, 8mi and 12mi route then, all meet back at Loco for some drinks, food, and socializing!

Basketball Courts

There are several basketball courts in Southie to play pick-up hoops. Courts include Christopher Lee Playground at 775 E 1st St, Buckley Playground at 210 W 3rd St, and Moakley Park at 187 Columbia Rd.

There are volleyball nets located on Carson Beach. Often there are leagues playing in the evening, but if the nets are open, you’re welcome to play!
