Red panda twins

The Franklin Park zoo announced this week that proud parents Stella Luna and Yang gave birth to two healthy twins on July 4th. This is a first for the 99-year-old zoo.  The two tiny bundles of joy should be ready for viewing by the end of October.

What is a Red Panda?

Red pandas are small red and white mammals not at all related to giant pandas.  They are found in bamboo forests in China, the Himalayas, and Myanmar.  The numbers of this species is dwindling and the International Union for Conservation of Nature classifies the species as “vulnerable” which means they could become endangered.

The new red pandas have not been named yet.  We’re thinking Ruby and Red, duh?
