Walk for Stephanie “Lovey” Uftring
On Saturday, November 5th, the Stephanie “Lovey” Uftring Memorial walk took place and what a huge success! It was a beautiful morning and perfect for a brisk walk along the route that Lovey walked so often. Over 100 walkers participated in support of Stephanie’s memory. The group walk started and ended at the Columbia Yacht Club (big thank you to CYC for hosting!). Stephanie would have been very pleased with the turn out and the love and togetherness expressed in her honor.
The funds raised will go towards scholarships earmarked for South Boston students in Lovey’s honor. Last year $4,500 was awarded to South Boston students – the application process will begin in January or 2017 – be on the look out for details!
About Stephanie: Stephanie (Lovey) was a life long South Boston resident who lost her battle to Colon Cancer in 2014 at the young age of 48. This memorial scholarship fund was established in her name/memory to give back to the community she adored so much. This was a wonderful tribute to a special person who is truly missed by family and friends. We know she was with us and thrilled to see the generosity and funds collected in support of the foundation; and in particular the scholarships for the children of South Boston.
Thank you to all that participated, donated and help coordinate this walk. A special thank you to Columbia Yacht Club, Quiet Man Memorial Fund, and L Street Tavern. We look forward to another successful event next year!!
