Congratulations to the winners of the Stephanie Uftring Memorial Scholarship.  On Sunday, May 22nd and Monday, May 23rd, the winners received their certificates and checks to help towards their education at the South Boston Yacht Club – one of Stephanie’s favorite spots.

Anyone who knew Stephanie “Lovey” Uftring knew how she could light up up a room with her personality. She was outgoing, kind, and loads of fun.  In October of 2014, Stephanie lost her battle with colon cancer and it was a dark day in South Boston to lose such a bright light.  Her legacy will live on through this scholarship.

Wil Patrick Hingston was awarded the $2500 scholarship towards his tuition at Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree.  Maxwell Nilan from South Boston Catholic Academy and Nyla Anderson from St. Peter Academy both received $1000.

The criteria for winning the scholarship was a 7th -12th grader who lives in or is from South Boston who wrote an essay based on the following questions:

1. Tell us what you like most about growing up in South Boston

2. Pick one person you admire most in your life and tell us why

3. If you knew Stephanie, tell us how she influenced your life. If you did not know her, based on the description we have provided, how do you think she could have influenced your life?

The $1000 scholarship winners had to draw a picture of what they like most about South Boston.
