Things I’m Excited about in April
Hellloooooo April and welcome to a new Caught In Southie feature in which I talk about the things I’m excited for in the upcoming month. April is a pretty darn exciting month. Winter is allegedly in our rearview mirror, we have the Boston Marathon/Patriots Day and April vacation coming up, days are getting longer, oh man April is pretty sweet. Let’s get right to all the April things I’m excited about, shall we?
Red Sox opening day. Ok, truth be told I don’t give a rat’s ass about the Red Sox, but I am VERY excited about the reemergence of Fenway Franks.
Food Truck season. Speaking of food, it’s food truck season ya’ll! Starting April 1st the Rose Kennedy Greenway will host thirty-four food trucks, on some days twenty trucks at a time! And if you feel a little gluttonous indulging in all that food you can always walk to and from the food trucks, that’s like a million Fitbit steps.
The South Boston Chamber of Commerce Spring Stroll. Mark your calendars for April 14th! I love shopping, I love a snack and a glass of wine, and I really love shopping while induling in a snack and a glass of wine. Luckily for me the Spring Stroll combines all these things! Some of our favorite local businesses like The Beauty Bar, Ku De Ta, Loco, Lincoln, Lindsay Tia, and Capo are on board for what is sure to be a great night. I hope to see you out strolling!
National Picnic Day. Did you know National Picnic Day is April 23rd? And did you know the best way to celebrate National Picnic Day is with a bottle of rose? And did you further know the gang at Social Wines can help you pick out the perfect bottle of rose? Well now you know all those things, and you know them because of me so you better invite me to your rose picnic. You can also read Keriann’s guide to picnics in Southie!
Television. Ok, TV is one of (and by “one of” I mean “only”) my great loves and holy moly am I looking forward to tv in April. First up we have the season two premiere of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on April 15th, and the inevitable Pinot Noir party (of one) that I’ll have when I watch it. Two weeks later we have the Game of Thrones premiere and I’m a little worried I may die of anticipation before April 24th rolls around. I know it speaks to how sad and pathetic my life is, but I can’t remember the last time I was as excited as I am for the Kimmy Schmidt, Game of Throne one-two punch, it is known.
That first real warm day. You know the day, the first warm day that isn’t a fluke. The first warm day that’s “real”. It stays comfortably in the high 60s all day, it doesn’t drop down to the 30s if you step into the shade. It’s not going to snow the next day, you know deep down in your soul this is the first of many, many warm days. The first real warm day of spring feels like hope, it feels like renewal. It feels like a spring and summer full of possibilities; full of blooming flowers and late sunsets, full of weekend trips to the Cape and day trips to Gloucester, of pedicured feet and bronzed skin, of lobster rolls and cookouts. That first real warm day feels like all is right in the world, like I might get off my couch every once in a while this year. God damn I love that day.
What are you looking forward to in April?
Clean streets! Street sweepers are back out in full force. Sorry if you get towed but the streets need a good sweep!
I agree wholeheartedly with all of the above-mentioned things in the article! I must admit, however, that April’s gotten a rather chilly start this year. Oh, well.
