Sully’s Takes Home a James Beard Award – And They’re Celebrating with a party and a beer collab

Big news for one of Southie’s most beloved institutions—Sullivan’s Castle Island has officially been named a 2025 James Beard America’s Classics Award winner! The legendary neighborhood spot was honored in Chicago this June with one of the most prestigious awards in the food world.

This award isn’t just about the menu—it’s about heart, heritage, and hometown pride. The James Beard Foundation describes their America’s Classics winners as “regional restaurants beloved in their communities for quality food, local character, and timeless appeal.”

And what’s a big win without a big celebration? Actually, two of them! Sullivan’s has teamed up with their neighbors at Castle Island Brewing to launch a brand-new limited-edition raspberry-lime lager called Rickey Business—a fizzy, fun nod to Sully’s signature summertime drink.

Here’s where you can toast to Sully’s win:

📍 Wednesday, July 23rd at Castle Island Brewery in South Boston, 6–9pm – (ticket link here)
📍 Tuesday, August 5th at Sullivan’s in Hanover Crossing, 6–9pm -(ticket link here)

Both events are free (yes, free!) and include a raffle entry for Sully’s swag and other fun prizes. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and local band Overserved Again will be bringing the tunes.

“We wanted a way to encapsulate that fleeting taste of summer,” said Brendan Sullivan, third-generation owner of the legendary spot. “Rickey Business is a cool, community-based collaboration—the essence of what makes us proud Bostonians.”

Castle Island Brewery’s Adam Romanow echoed the love: “They’re a Southie staple, and now a James Beard Award winner. This collab was a no-brainer.”

So grab your friends, raise a pint, and celebrate a Southie icon that’s been serving the city for 75 years.
