A simple miracle and a kind stranger changed the course of a day for one South Boston resident on Saturday, January 21st.  The day began normally for this young woman (who wishes to remain anonymous) – dropping her dog off at Broadway Dog Spa, meeting a friend for brunch at Stats, then picking up her dog from the groomers and a visit to her friend’s apartment conveniently located across the street from the groomers.  Upon entering her friend’s apartment, she realized her engagement ring was missing from her left hand.  Only her wedding band was there.  Immediate panic settled in and the two quickly went outside to see if they could find it. Reminder: It snowed on Friday evening leaving three inches and the snow continued to fall throughout Saturday.

Sort of like searching for a needle in a haystack

For the next four hours, they searched the snow.  They informed anyone walking by on East Broadway and the neighboring businesses of their plight.   They tried retracing their steps back to Stats but their search turned up empty. After purchasing a rake at Flood Square Hardware, they began to rake the snow and pray for a miracle.  As time passed from minutes into hours, they realized that the chances of finding the ring are slim to none.

An amazing twist of fate
After four hours of searching, meltdowns, crying fits and positive words of encouragement from strangers, the young woman was approached by a gentleman exiting the Java House.  “Excuse me.  What are you looking for?” he asked.  When she told him her ring, a smile passed across his face and he informed her that he and a friend had found her ring.  Scott of Peace and Curren Inc., had been showing an apartment nearby to a friend.  They found the ring in the snow. Scott called his friend who was holding the ring for safe keeping.  Their plan was to put an ad on Craigslist in the lost and found section or turn it into police.  Soon the ring was back on her finger and the day turned from misery to elation.

Fortunate Premonition
While the search was happening, her friend went into the businesses in the area to ask them if anyone had turned in the missing ring.  While she was in Headquarters – a local salon, one of the stylists asked her to pull a card from a deck of Tarot cards.  The card she extracted was the “Miracle” card.  The stylist said, “You’re friend’s going to find her ring,”  Spooky, right?

Happy Ending
So the story ended on a positive note.  The ring is back where it belongs on her finger next to her wedding band.  From this emotionally traumatic experience, she has realized a new found appreciation for her town of South Boston.  “There are so many good people in South Boston always there to help.  They are honest, good, and trustworthy people.  In the three years of living here, I can proudly say I am so blessed and honored to live here and to have met such hardworking, good-hearted people along the way.”

And everyone lived happily ever after.

I lost my wallet on Dorchester St. While walking home from the Playwright in October. I had everything in it… My keys, my ID, credit cards and cash. I searched for two weeks, filed a police report and tried not to listen to those negatives thoughts such as, “You lost it on Dorchester St.! It’s gone. Good luck finding it!” As some weeks passed, I was starting to forget about it and then two months later, I received a package in the mail with no return address. IT WAS MY WALLET!!! Cash, keys and all still inside! The wallet angel found it behind it’s car one night on Dorchester Street! Amazing! There are good people out there!
