The Caught in Southie Good Neighbor Award goes to Jimmy Duffy

Jimmy Duffy (Boston Firefighter at the K Street Firehouse) from East Seventh Street who single handedly stopped a potential car theft from happening.

According to “someone in the know”, Jimmy Duffy awoke in the middle of the night and looked out his window to see a male with a flashlight checking car doors on East Seventh Street.  Jimmy decided to go outside and take a closer look where he found the suspect emerging from a neighbor’s alleyway and opening an unlocked car and attempting to enter it.

Jimmy quickly called police and began to chase the suspect for several blocks.  A scuffle ensued and the suspect fled.  The police eventually found the suspect a several blocks away and brought the suspect back to Jimmy’s house to identify him.  After a positive identification, the suspect was promptly arrested and East Seventh Street was safe once again.

It is people like Jimmy Duffy and his neighbor watch that help keep our neighborhood a little bit safer.  Thank you Jimmy for being a good neighbor!

Insider’s side note: Jimmy’s fellow firefighters at K Street got him a customized half-moon with the word “hero” for him.  So sweet!
