The last Friday of every month is Walk/Ride Days and this Friday, August 26th just happens to be the last Friday of the month.  An listen up Southie – Green Streets is giving you a challenge – leave your car parked!

The Green Streets Initiative is an international grassroots organization based in Cambridge that celebrates and promotes the use of sustainable, active transportation. They believe that environmentally friendly and healthier modes of transportation can enhance our lives.  The ultimate goal is to create safer, healthier and quieter streets and more vibrant communities.
The Green Street initiative is encouraging you to leave your car at home and use your feet to get to work!  Walk, ride your bike, take the bus, jump on a train, even carpooling counts.

Here’s how to get involved:

  • first, Go Green (walk, bike, use public transit, skate, canoe, etc.)
  • and Wear Green… (we suggest a Caught in Southie t-shirt)
  • then celebrate and get rewarded!

Locally, you can reap the benefits at Blue Tierra – a free piece of chocolate to all you eco-friendly commuters and The Running Emporium will give you 10% off your purchase.  Log on to gogreenstreets.org and register for a raffle of prizes for all participants too.

So not only are you doing something great for our neighborhood’s environment, but you get a little something for yourself in return.  Karma, baby!
