Valentine’s Day Southie Style

In this economy who can afford an expensive dinner at a fancy steak house?  So we’ve come up with some some cheap date ideas that don’t skimp in the romance department.  The best part of all – you don’t have to leave Southie – we love that!

Ice Skating at the Murphy Rink
Relive your youth.  Rent some skates and hit the ice.  Whether you’re an expert at skating or not, it’s a great excuse to hold hands to keep each other steady.  Steal a kiss in the penalty box.  When your done, grab a slice of “rink” pizza.

Have a picnic
We know it’s February but unseasonably warm temperatures makes it a perfect opportunity to have a moonlit picnic outside.  Spread out a blanket, light a candle and enjoy the view.  A picnic is romantic but a winter picnic is even more romantic. American Provisions (613 East Broadway) can hook you up with it’s amazing selection of cheese and chocolate.  Our picks for picnic spots?  Castle Island or The Heights.

Write a love letter
Nothing expresses how you feel like your own words written on paper.  Writing a love letter is a dying art and will show how much you care.  Just put the pen to the paper and let you heart say the words.  Fold up the letter and slip it in a beautiful Valentine’s card.  You can pick one up at Calnan’s (709 East Broadway).  https://caughtinsouthie.com/shop/valentines-day-cards

Chocolat
Skip dinner and go straight for dessert.  Complete with old church pews from St. Augustines and real china cups, Blue Tierra (258 West Broadway)  is a perfectly romantic spot.  Order up some coffee made fresh in a French press and share some decadently delicious chocolate treats.

Make out
Never underestimate the power of a good old fashioned make out session.  And nothing is more fun than making out in a car.  Drive to “lovers lane” (Shore Road) or to Castle Island put it in park and pucker up.  You’ll be fogging up the windows in no time.  Don’t forget the Dentyne Red.
