Tenants Left Waiting as Move-In Dates Keep Getting Pushed Back at Fort Point Apartment Building

Imagine signing a lease, paying your deposit, and then finding out you can’t move into your new apartment.
That’s what’s happening to some tenants at 263 Summer Street in Fort Point, where a former office building is being converted into 77 apartments as part of a City of Boston housing initiative.
According to NBC10 Boston, one woman signed her lease in July and was supposed to move in on September 1st. Her move-in date was pushed to October 1st, then October 14th, with no guarantee that the apartment would be ready.
Meanwhile, she’s been living out of a suitcase, sleeping on an air mattress, and paying for temporary housing and storage.
Developer Adam Burns told NBC10 Boston that an unexpected gas service issue caused the delays. He says tenants are receiving rent credits while they wait.
The City of Boston says it’s encouraging the developer to support tenants and get them into their apartments as soon as possible.
For now, some future residents are still waiting for a confirmed move-in date.
