SBYH U10 Girls Team wins Mayor’s Cup Tournament – way to go!
Who runs the world? Girls!
Over the Christmas break, the South Boston Youth Hockey U10 Girls’ team won the Mayor’s Cup Tournament at Boston College Conte Stadium. The Southie girls beat Hyde Park 2-1 in a shootout.
South Boston’s Audrey Essig, assisted by Kendall Collins, scored the first goal in the second period. With only seconds left in regulation, Hyde Park pulled their goalie and tied the game 1-1. Per tournament rules, the game went directly to a shootout where Southie’s Quinn Maki scored the winning goal, and Southie goalie Cora Walcott shut out Hyde Park. The championship team was coached by Brendan McGrath and Brendan Walsh.
Five of the girls, Kendall Collins, Audrey Essig, Quinn Maki, Sloane McGrath, and Lucy Walsh, won a Mayor’s Cup trophy earlier that morning with the Southie Squirt AA team against Hyde Park, where Sloane McGrath and Quinn Maki each had goals.
