All Roads Lead to South Boston – Little League World Series Champions Player Max Baker
Did you watch the Little League World Series? If you did, then you know the team from El Segundo, CA won the championship! Well, there’s a Southie connection. Max Baker, who plays for El Segundo, has ties to the neighborhood. His father is Jack Baker from East Eighth Street, who was an impressive athlete who played in the South Boston Little League – for Adams Food Shop with legendary coach Kenny Preskenis. Jack was also a great hockey player and went on to play for the BU Terriers. Many years ago, Jack moved to California and now has a family out there.
Max’s grandparents are Billy and Rachel Baker.
Special thank you to Jay Rooney – for giving us the scoop!

Very cool, what a thrill! LLWS is something to see, 1996 I took my 12 year old son to Williamsport with two other Southie boys ,great memories , congrats to the Baker family , Billy is a legend
Are we that pathetic that we have to live vicariously through the lives of former Southie residents ? Go on line to “Originally from Southie” or some other loser web site of South Shore former Southie residents who regret selling their multi-million house up the point for peanuts. If Southie residents had real babies instead of fur babies we too could field a little league team.
People who read Caught in Southie know the Baker family so it’s a big deal for them. No need to be mean.
Little league baseball is a sport that binds friendships for a lifetime, let us all look at our own experiences and say way to go to these young champions for their spirit, let us forgo misgivings of the past, no need for criticism.
Little kids are running head long into a very uncertain, and likely uncomfortable future.
Encourage, praise, support them in their efforts…..
Spend every dime you can on them all, I believe most adults would agree that our time is over…..over, there I said it twice.
It’s the little kids, it’s about the little kids now and from here forward.
Unless you haven’t a clue as to what’s really going on .?? Stop the B’s chatter.
Wake up for the sake of the kids !
You’re an ass. You’re mad because people are happy for somebody’s kid and grandkid that was from their neighborhood.
What have you accomplished that we can celebrate?
