Boston Magazine

Boston Magazine gives a little love to Southie’s West Side (a.k.a. the Lower End).  In the January issue, Courtney Holland scopes out the best places to eat and shop including some of our faves:

  • Neatly Nested
  • Covet
  • Pretty Reckless
  • Dew Luxe
  • Social Wines
  • My Bike
  • Grand Ten Distillery
  • Lincoln
  • Stephi’s in Southie
  • K0 Pies

Holland also goes on to refer to South Boston as “a shopping and dining destination”.  Sweet.  Southie’s West Side – you are officially the new Charles Street!

I went into Neatly Nested with a friend after I had been dying to go in there for months. The girl working sat at her computer, did not look up, and was very unfriendly. I actually wanted to purchase something and could not find a price. I would have asked, but I really didn’t want to give my $$ to someone who couldn’t be bothered to even say hello when I walked into the store. When we left we said goodby and have a good day and again got no response. I plan on returning so hopefully someone else will be working.

I couldn’t agree more about Neatly Nested…  if the owner wants to have a successful business in Southie, she and/or her employees need an attitude adjustment. I went in recently and the girl was on her phone the entire time and was much more interested in talking to her friend about the new David Yurman jewelry she got for Christmas than helping and greeting customers. I felt like I was intruding as a customer. Nothing is priced, which creates an intimidating atmosphere… people leave out of fear that they will get to the register and not be able to afford the bauble they want. The store is adorable, i would hate to see it go, but will not support it if things don’t change.

I’ve been in Neatly Nested a few times and have had great experiences.  The girl who helped me is always very friendly and even offered to measure a table for me so that I could see if it would fit in my house before purchasing.  Sorry to hear your visit wasn’t as fun as mine…maybe give it another try!
