Portrait of a City finalist!  Southie resident and artist Deb Putnam has been selected as one of the finalists in the Boston Art Commission’s portrait of a city contest.  Artists were encourage to submit work capturing contemporary life in the city and the winner’s work will be given as gifts to visiting diplomats and distinguished guests.  Deb Putnam’s painting Copley Winter – is one of the five finalists.  She needs your help Southie!  Vote for Deb!   You can see the 5 finalists and vote by visiting: http://www.publicartboston.com/content/portrait-city-semi-finalists

Perk up with a Coffee Pop-Up!  Nespresso has set up a pop-up shop this week in Dewey Square Plaza.  Enjoy a complimentary tasting from May 19th-23rd from 8am-7pm.  This pop-up is part of a 108 day tour showcasing the new Nespresso VertuoLine that makes both coffee and espresso. 

Tavern Road (343 Congress Street) is featuring a pop-up shop this week too!  On Tuesday, May 20th enjoy the delicious burgers of The Super Burger Brothers (Level 2) with sides and drink via Tavern Road.  This pop-up will take place from 10am-2pm. 

Be informed.  Get involved. On Monday, May 19th at 6:30pm, Massport will host a meeting to present an overview of the project of the new 2/3-mile dedicated freight corridor and park construction on East First Street and Farragut Road.  Come learn about about how Massport will remove all Conley Terminal container truck traffic  as well as construct a new 4.5-acre community open space.  The freight corridor and park will be named after Tommy Butler – a local legend, community activist, former manager for Massport, and all around great guy.  This meeting will be held a the Tynan Community Center at 650 East Fourth Street.

Are you ready for some football?  South Boston Pop Warner sign-ups are this week.  Stop by the SBPW Field (down next to the Murphy Rink) on Tuesday, May 20th and Thursday, May 22nd from 6pm to 7:30pm.  You can download a registration form at www.sbpw.com .  Registration fee is $150.
