Just some suggestions of fun things happening around town
Be informed. Planet Southie is having their monthly meeting on Monday, August 22nd at 6pm at the South Boston Public Library. Connect with your fellow neighbors and learn more about local and global environmental issues.
Speaking of green…The last Friday of every month is Walk/Ride Day! Walk to work or ride your bike instead of talking your car. If you do, you will reap the benefits from some local Southie businesses. The South Boston Running Emporium (343 W Broadway) offers 10% off purchases to people who wear green and mention that they are participating in Walk/Ride Day. Blue Tierra Chocolate Cafe (258 West Broadway) is giving away a free piece of handmade gourmet chocolate to walk/ride day participants, starting this month. The Green Streets Initiative celebrates and promotes the use of sustainable, active transportation. Sounds good to us!
Fun in the sun! Celebrate the last days of summer at the Southie’s End of Summer Beach Party at the L Street Bath House (M Street side) on Tuesday, August 23rd from 6pm to 9pm. There will be food, ice cream and lots of activities for the kids like face painting and a sand castle making contest. There will be a live performance by the Linehan Brothers too. See you there!
I scream! You scream! We all scream for ice cream! The District 6 Police Ice Cream Truck will be giving out free Hoodsies all over Southie on Tuesday, August 23rd. Here is a list of stops:
- 6:00pm The D Street Housing Development
- 6:20pm The Buckley Playground (D and West Third Street)
- 6:40pm The Old Colony Housing Development
- 7:00pm The Mary Ellen McCormack Housing Development
- 7:20pm M Street Park
With only a few more weeks left of summer, you need to cross off “sitting harborside enjoying cocktails and appetizers” off of your to do list. Head to Legal Harborside and sit on their patio along Boston’s HarborWalk. We highly recommend the sangria. On weekends from 11am-1pm, kids under 12 are invited to “catch and release” fishing in their lobby trout pond. What kid wouldn’t love that?
