Oh deer!  The Boston Harbor Association will be hosting a trip to Deer Island on Wednesday, May 25th from 9:30am to 12:30pm.  Hop on the ferry and walk two miles of hillside trails and take in the views of Boston Harbor and the neighboring islands.  Pack some snacks and enjoy the day!  This trip is free and reservations are required.  To reserve your spot send an email to: [email protected] or call 617-482-1722.

New Southie is kicking off summer at one of Southie’s newest hot spots Papagayo (283 Summer Street.)  On Thursday, May 26th at 8:30pm, join your fellow Southie friends and neighbors at the best Mexican and Tequila bar around.  We highly recommend the tequila snowcones.  They are muy bien!

How does your garden grow?  The City Point Neighborhood Association will hold its first City Point in Bloom garden competition.  Categories include best window box; best front garden space; best back garden space; best deck, patio or roof deck and best use of public space like the area around your sidewalk tree.   The entry fee is $10.  For more information go to www.sbcitypoint.com.  We can’t wait to see!

It’s Family Day at The Institute of Contemporary Art (100 Northern Ave.) On Saturday, May 28th from 10am to 4pm families can take part in sketching, games and music on Boston’s HarborWalk in front of the ICA.  There will also be a scavenger hunt and artist and author Giles La Roche will talk about his new book , “What’s Inside?” and lead a collage-making workshop.  Admission is free for two adults per family with children under 12 years old.  For more information go to www.ica-boston.org.

Memorial Day Weekend is this weekend!  And if weather permits, it’s a perfect excuse to have a good old-fashioned cook-out.  Stop by and see our good friends Paul and Phil at K&8th and pick up some of the best steak tips you’ll ever taste!  And our other buddies down the street at East Side Market (474 East Eighth Street)  have an amazing selection of wine and the experts on staff to help you with any questions.  They deliver too!
