On your mark.  Get set.  Go! Lace up your running sneakers and register for the Jim Kane Sugar Bowl 5K.  Celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary, this road race is a local favorite for not only it’s flat course along the water but for the party after the race too. The L Street Running Club who organizes this race announced a new course this year as well as vendor expo, more awards and raffles, baggage check and free parking.  The race takes on Thursday, July 19th at 6:30 pm and begins at Carson Place.  Registration is $30.  Commemorative 25th Anniversary Tech Shirt to the first 1000 to register.  For more information or to register online visit: http://www.lstreet.org/

Let’s get physical.  As part of the Boston Moves for Health, Mayor Menino is hosting a free Fitcorp bootcamp on Wednesday at 5:30 on City Hall Plaza.  People off all fitness levels are encouraged to  participate in this high-energy, outdoor interval class.  The free Fitcorp Bootcamp will happen every Wednesday from 5:30pm-6:30pm from July 11th through August 29th. Participants should arrive 10 minutes before class begins.?

Groovy! Revisit the 70’s at Local 149’s 70’s Dinner Party on Monday July 23rd at 7pm.  Inspired by the decade of bell bottoms, free love, and the best music ever, this event will feature food and cocktails that celebrate the 1970’s.  Expect a 1970’s sound track, door prizes and decor!  70’s attire is encouraged! Grand Prize for the best outfit (two tickets to the Allman Brother band at the pavilion, VIP seats & VIP parking). Tickets are $55 each or $100 for two tickets. Beach Blanket Bingo! Throw on your flip flops and head to  Carson Beach for a night of summertime fun.  The South Boston Community Health Center will be hosting a 40th Birthday Beach Barbecue on Thursday, July 26th at 6 PM at the McCormack Bathhouse Pavilion right on Carson Beach. Tickets to win the $10,000 are $100 and only 300 will be sold. Each ticket admits two people to the event.?Expect great BBQ, an open bar with beer and wine, music and dancing, raffles galore in support of South Boston Community Health Center’s food pantry and one lucky duck will win $10,000. Proceeds from the event will benefit the programs and services of the South Boston Community Health Center where health care is provided to nearly half of South Boston’s population.
