Inform and inspire.  The community of South Boston is encourage to attend an evening with Chris Herren.  This former NBA star turned substance abuse awareness and prevention advocate will be speaking at the South Boston Green Academy (formerly South Boston High School) at 5:30pm.  The South Boston Community Health Center and the Gavin Foundation have organized this event of education and inspiration.  Herren’s story is one that will inform and impact those who hear it.

Summertime fun!  The Curley Recreation Center’s Youth Activities Program kicks off Monday, July 9th.  Featuring arts and crafts, sports and games, and good old fashioned fun, this program is available for boys and girls from ages 6 to 12.  Sign up takes place on Fridays at 9am.  For requirements visit:

Get checked out!  The Dana Farber Institute’s Blum Van will be at Carson Beach on July 13th from 1pm to 4pm to give free cancer screenings.  It’s important to have this screening and early detection is key in preventing and treating skin cancer.  Educational materials as well as free swag like key chains, energy beads, and Red Sox caps will be handed out to all those that stop by.  

Bushel and a peck.  Enjoy fresh produce every Monday from 12pm to 6pm on West Broadway between Dorchester Street and F Street.  Local farmers, bakers and craftsman sell their good in an open market right here in South Boston.  Shop local.
