Expand your horizons.  Local Southie photographer Judy West will be sharing her recent trip to the white sands of the Gobi desert with fun slide-show presentation entitles “Ancient Pursuits of Modern Mongolia”.  This family friendly program will be set to authentic Mongolian music and will feature real yak wool cashmere and felt souvenirs on display.  The fun begins at 6:30pm on Monday, April 23rd at the South Boston Public Library (646 East Broadway). 

Clean out your closets and help a great local cause.  On Thursday, April 26th from 9am-3pm the South Boston Head Start will be hosting it’s first ever spring swap.  Donate your gently used clothing and shoes for all ages?and genders.  Also seeking small household items/appliances, books and games. The air is growing warmer.  The trees are budding and the Laboure Spring Benefit are all signs of the arrival of a new season.  On Thursday, April 26th at 5:30pm help support an amazing South Boston charity and enjoy cocktails, savories and the harbor view.  This year’s event takes place at the John Hancock Financial’s atrium at 601 Congress Street. There will be live and silent auction items to suit all tastes and purse sizes and the evening will honor the Massachusetts Convention Center’s James E.  Rooney and the Honorable Mayor Thomas Menino. Lace up your bowling shoes and help support Southie Strides.  Three outstanding young women – Dawn Kenneally, Anabela Salgado and Keryn Connolly will be running a half marathon to benefit some special charities.  On Friday, April 27th, join your neighbors and friends for a night of bowling, raffles, music and lots of fun.  This 21 plus event kicks off at 7pm at South Boston Bowlarama and the cost is $20. Cash bar available. The ladies are running a half marathon in Long Island, NY on May 6th to benefit to following:
    –    Jack Dias, Small Victories/Autism
    –    Jason Kenneally and the South Boston Special Kids
    –    Bela Bartel, Pediatric Hdrocephalus Foundation
