Lots of fun events happening this week in South Boston.

Beer and charity. Harpoon Brewery (306 Northern Ave) is hosting a troop supply drive o Wednesday, February 22nd from 5:30-7pm. Reserve your spot and bring items to send to the armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and enjoy the seasonal debut of Harpoon Celtic Ale to taste. Space is limited so RSVP today. With hardly any snow accumulation and lack of parking wars, this winter has been flying by and spring is right around the corner. Another sign that spring is almost here? Sullivan’s is opening this weekend. The legendary hot dog stand opens it’ doors on Saturday, February 25th at 8:30. Half price hot dogs all weekend long! Hot diggety dog!

Get fired up about St. Patrick’s Day! On Saturday, February 25th from 10am-12pm The South Boston Citizen’s Association – the nations oldest neighborhood organization by the way – is having its yearly Jimmy Flaherty Kickoff Breakfast for the Evacuation Day Events. South Boston Citizen’s Association President Tom McGrath will be running the festivities with Senator Jack Hart as the Honorary Chairman from The Cornerstone Restaurant (West Broadway). Suggested donation is $10. A breakfast buffet will be served and entertainment provided by Currah’s Fancy!

It’s school vacation week and the South Boston Public Library has some kids activities planned. On Tuesday, February 21nd at 3pm enjoy the sheer simplicity of board games. Families can play old school classics like Monopoly, checkers and more. On Wednesday, February 22nd at 11am a screening of a children’s featured film will take place and on Thursday at 4pm the library will offer a make-it and take-it craft for children of all ages. Sound like the cure for cabin fever to us!

Hoop de doop! The annual fundraiser for the Gatey CYO Basketball happens Saturday, February 25th from 5:30-8pm at BC High, Hunter/Fahey Commons (150 Morrissey Blvd.) Enjoy complimentary cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, prizes, a $500 raffle and entertainment provided by Danny Gill and the Old Brigade.
