It’s Veterans Day on Monday!   Originally known as Armistice Day to honor the living veterans of World War 1, Veterans Day has transformed into a holiday that celebrates all those who served their country.  Make sure to thank a veteran! The VFW Post 561 – Thomas J. Fitzgerald Post (715 East Fourth Street) – will celebrate Veteran’s Day on Monday, November 11th at 9 a.m with a parade march to St. Brigid’s Chapel, and a memorial Mass followed by a brunch at Cushing Hall (lower church).? Who says, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch”? In celebration of Veterans Days, Barlows (241 A Street) is offering all veterans a free lunch with valid military ID.  Just a small and simple way to thank those who served for us and our freedom.  Need a ride to Barlow’s?  The Southie Shuttle (617-268-4110) will pick you up and drive you for free.

Be informed.  Get involved.  Massport will be holding a special community meeting on Wednesday, November 13th at 6pm at the Tynan Community Center (650 East Fourth Street).  Massport will present an update of the Conley Terminal improvements,dedicated freight corridor and buffer open space project.  All are encouraged to attend.

Mix and mingle with the movers and shakers of the Boston area who are trying to make students’ future a little brighter. The main goal of Operation Progress is to invest in students who otherwise might otherwise be denied an opportunity to succeed.  On Saturday, November 16th, Operation Progress is hosting a special event and fundraiser from 6pm-10pm at Julep Bar – 200 High Street.    There will be a silent auction featuring great items such as sports memorabilia, tickets and gift cards to local Southie favorites like Lincoln, Paramount and Local 149.

Handstands and boot camps at South Boston Yoga.  Learn how to master the handstand (you know you’re dying to) at a special workshop on Wednesday, November 13th from 8am-9:45am.  Ultimate Bootcamp is partnering up with South Boston Yoga.  They will be hosting a three week program beginning in December Monday-Friday.  To celebrate the partnership, a special class of 60 minutes of bootcamp followed by 90 minutes of yoga.  Holy Moly!  The class takes place on November 16th at 8am.  Space is limited so sign up here: http://www.ultimatebootcamp.com/southboston/#specialclass
