Family fun!

Boston, MA – Mayor Michelle Wu’s rescheduled Inaugural Celebration will be held on Thursday, June 30, from 11am-3pm on Boston City Hall Plaza.

Breaking with tradition, the Inauguration of Mayor Wu will be a summer block party that is free and open to all. The event will bring together residents of all ages for family-friendly activities, food, and musical performances for “A Celebration of Boston’s Possibility.”

“I’m thrilled to finally mark our inauguration in community as the school year comes to a close and Boston gets ready for summer,” said Mayor Wu. “Our administration is focused on making Boston a city for everyone, so this summer block party will celebrate the limitless possibility of what we can achieve together.”

Mayor Wu was sworn into office on November 16, 2021, just two weeks after her history-making election, when she became the first woman and first person of color to be elected Mayor of Boston. While a full inauguration with public events was planned for earlier this year, the Wu administration had to postpone inaugural plans in order to prioritize the health and safety of all guests amid COVID surges.

During her first seven months in office, Mayor Wu has advanced several initiatives aligned with her mission to build a better Boston for all. In December, the Wu administration appropriated $8 million in federal funding to eliminate fares on three MBTA bus routes for two years. Earlier this year, the Wu administration successfully transitioned people experiencing unsheltered homelessness and substance use at “Mass and Cass” into low-threshold transitional housing and shelter. The Wu administration also created the first Office of Early Childhood to address education and care for children under five and launched a $2 billion plan to invest in Boston Public Schools.
